Privacy policy

Last updated 1 November 2026

OffSwitch is built so that there is almost nothing to be private about: we don't ask who you are, and we don't hold your money details. Here is exactly what happens to your information.

The short version

  • No account, no sign-up, no name, no email address.
  • No bank logins, no card numbers, no sort codes, ever.
  • What you pick stays in your own browser on your own device.
  • Nothing is sold, shared or used to build a profile of you.

What we never ask for

OffSwitch will never ask for your online banking details, card numbers, account passwords or a connection to your bank. If anything claiming to be OffSwitch asks for those, it isn't us. We don't need them: you tell us which subscriptions you pay for, and we show you what already does the same job for free.

What stays on your device

Your answers, the subscriptions you've chosen to keep or cancel, any savings you've marked as done, your trial reminders and which tips you've read are saved in your browser's own storage on this device. That means:

  • it is readable by this app on this device only;
  • it is not sent to us as you use the app;
  • clearing your browser data removes it for good.

If you use a shared or family device, anyone using that device could open the app and see your list.

The one thing that can leave your device

If you choose to make a private backup so you can move your list to another device, a scrambled copy of your choices is stored so it can be found again. It is locked with a key made from twelve words that only you see. Without those twelve words the copy cannot be read, not by us and not by anyone who gets hold of it.

We cannot recover your twelve words, and we cannot unlock or read a backup for you. If you lose them, that backup is gone. If you never make a backup, nothing about you is stored by us at all.

Cookies and tracking

We don't use advertising cookies, we don't follow you around other websites, and we don't build a profile of what you might buy. Nothing here learns from you or guesses at your habits. What you see is the same written, hand-checked guidance every visitor sees.

When you tap a cancellation link

Cancelling happens on the company's own website or in your phone's subscription settings. Once you leave OffSwitch, that company's privacy policy and terms apply, not ours. We don't see, and aren't told, whether a cancellation worked.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask what information an organisation holds about you, ask for a copy, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to how it's used. Because OffSwitch has no account and no profile of you, there is usually nothing for us to look up, copy or delete: your data is on your device and under your control.

If you've made a private backup and would like it removed, clear your browser data on the device and we will remove stored backups on request. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you're unhappy with how any organisation has handled your information.

Getting in touch

OffSwitch never collects your email address and there's no account to log into. If you have a question about your information, or you'd like a stored private backup removed, send us an email. A person reads that inbox and replies.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we'll update the date at the top of this page. Meaningful changes will be described here in plain English rather than quietly amended.
